Financial Aid Overview <<< STEP 3: UNDERSTANDING THE TYPES OF FINANCIAL AID AVAILABLE Child Development Teacher GrantsThe Child Development Teacher Grant Program targets students attending California public or private two- or four-year institutions who plan to teach or supervise at a licensed children's center. Up to 100 new grants, renewable for one additional year, will be awarded each year. Participants enrolled in a two-year college will receive a $1000 grant per year; those enrolled in four-year colleges will receive a $2000 grant per year. To be eligible, you must have financial need; be enrolled at least half time in a course of study leading to a Teacher Permit, or hold a Teacher Permit and be working toward a Director Permit; and maintain academic progress and at least a C grade point average. In return, participants must teach full-time in a licensed California children's center for one year for each year of grant assistance. The California Student Aid Commission administers the program. (The grant program replaces the former Child Development Teacher Loan Assumption Program.) For more information, contact your financial aid or early childhood education office, or CSAC. This federally supported program is subject to annual funding review by Congress. |
